THE RAYS OF SUNSHINE
All of us can think of special individuals who always manage to find time to help other people. 14/WILI and the Mohegan Sun have a name for those special people. They are Connecticut’s RAYS OF SUNSHINE, and together we’re paying tribute to them. Hear acceptance interviews with many of our Ray of Sunshine winners by clicking here. To nominate someone, simply email wayne @ wili.com or snail mail your entry to WILI Ray of Sunshine, 720 Main Street, Willimantic, Ct. 06226 with a few details on why your nominee is special.

Kathy Cote of Norwich is our latest Ray of Sunshine Award winner. Shannon Andros’ nomination letter said:
I am writing to nominate Kathy Cote for the Ray of Sunshine award. Kathy is the principal for NFA’s alternative program Sachem Academy. She is truly inspiring to work for. Her positive attitude and caring disposition are contagious. Kathy is the heart and soul of our program. She treats every single one of her students and staff members like they are part of her family. She has built a community here at Sachem where people use compassion and kindness. She has done that by continually going above and beyond to make sure everyone feels loved and welcome. She advocates for students when they have trouble finding their voice. She is open to ideas and thinks outside box to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our students. She always rocks spirit week! She spreads positivity by holding holiday competitions and community events that encourage parent participation, and never forgets a birthday. She shows students a new side of themselves that they never knew existed. She inspires students to work harder and to be kinder. Above all, she is an extraordinary leader. I feel incredibly lucky to learn from her. She has taught me to be a better teacher and a better human being. She is my ray of sunshine at school and is making not just our school, but also our world a better place.
Sincerely,
Shannon Andros
Social Studies teacher, NFA
